You find yourself driving through Sattler/Canyon Lake Texas and a sign catches your eye -
MOVIE STREET & MUSIC. It’s in part a DVD rental store called MOVIE STREET but it’s the music part that will really get your attention.
Not visible from the street is a full service MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS & SUPPLIES store called BACK STAGE MUSIC SUPPLY, operated by Larry Read who is a recording artist, guitar & vocal instructor.
Larry has been in the music business most of his life, among his many credits was creating music for the Nintendo Wii Game, “Battle of the Bands”.
Once inside the store, your first impression is “Wow”! In the new, spacious facility, The music store is on the left and the video store is on the right. The stage is center with a large seating area down the middle.
Hanging on the wall is a very nice selection of guitars, hand picked by Larry, ranging from electrics to acoustics. Mandolins, banjos and ukuleles round out the large selection of string instruments.
One thing that sets this music store apart from others is that Larry sets up each instrument that he sells. He spends a lot of time setting the intonation and harmonics, string heights, neck and bridge adjustments and tuning the guitar to perfection. Repairs, replacing strings, and adjustments are also services that Larry provides.
Sitting over in the corner is a new drum set. Guitar and bass amplifiers surround the room. A lighted glass case contains trombones, trumpets, saxophones, flutes, clarinets, violins and keyboards. Gently used instruments are also available.
Musical accessories that include reeds for saxophones and clarinets, oils, cleaning kits and cloths, parts and pads, straps, a very large assortment of strings, picks, drumsticks in assorted weights, microphones, cables, harmonicas in all keys and much more are on display in glass cases.
Larry has worked hard to keep the prices low and affordable but high quality is the goal. When asked, he says, “I won’t sell junk!” This is truly a store “run by musicians for musicians”. Customer service is number one. If he doesn’t have what you’re looking for, he can get it. He has access to literally thousands of items.
At the moment Instructors are available to teach guitar, bass, keyboards, and violin. A private practice room is available for lessons.
